There are 209 days from Alta’s closing day in the spring to the opening day of the 2016-17 season. You may prefer to think of these days as weeks, of which there are 29 or maybe even months, 6 months and 25 days. The good news is many of those days, weeks and months are far behind us. We are on the home stretch.

We’ve been surviving many of these long days and weeks sharing some of your favorite Instagram photos from the last several years in our #survivingsummer series. Ski Utah has recently launched #waitingforwinter encouraging skiers to share how they are preparing for the upcoming winter season. How are you Surviving Summer and/or Waiting for Winter?

As the number of days between now and Opening Day (November 18, 2016) becomes shorter and shorter and the weather turns cooler and cooler we wanted to help with the hype and celebrate the (soon-to-be) forthcoming first snow of the season, and we want your input! So, friends and readers, when do you think we’ll measure 6” on the Goldminer’s Daughter Lodge deck? Consult your crystal balls or perhaps your magic 8 balls and prepare your best guess.

  • What: When will Alta receive its first 6” snowfall measured from the GMD deck?
  • When: Your guess must be entered by October 15, 2016 at 12 p.m. MST.
  • Why: Why not? And, for a chance to receive a free night lodging at Goldminer’s Daughter Lodge (blackout dates and restrictions may apply).
  • How: Choose your date and the storm total by first snowfall of 6″+ or October 15, 2016 at 12 p.m. MST Complete the form here.
