Each year once the calendar hits August, we feel a shift in the air. Maybe it’s the ever so slight chill in the air, or the few minutes of additional darkness each day. Maybe it’s the increase in phone calls or increase in web traffic. We can’t pinpoint what causes the shift, but it’s evident. While September is considered the real kick-off to the ski season, once August hits there is no denying, winter is coming.
As always, we spent a good amount of this summer fixing up things here and there and coming up with new programs and packages to excite you for the upcoming winter. Some of these projects aren’t flashy, but the type of things you have to do when you are the steward of a 55-year-old building located at the base of a ski resort situated 8,500 feet above sea level.
WHAT TO EXPECT FOR THE 2017-18 SKI SEASON
Specials and Events
Powder Hounds – We’ve created a pre-paid package for skiers with flexible schedules who can actually chase the storms. How it works: Prepay for 5 or 10 nights, and call when you’re ready to book. Powder Hounds can lock in a low rate, but they can’t book more than 48 hours in advance.
Early Bird Specials – Looking for an early winter getaway? Last November, Alta received 70″ of snow and another 80″ fell in December. Early season ski trips allow you the opportunity to get your ski legs under you and set the stage for the rest of the season. Bring the family! Kids stay free and early season rates are in effect through December 7. Make it a group! 2nd or 3rd adult per room only pay for their meal plan on bookings through December 7.
Lodging specials can be booked by calling Goldminer’s Daughter Lodge at 800-453-4573.
Improvements & Enhancements
Each year, our loyal guests take the time to provide feedback on where we do a great job, but also where things could use some improvement. We also assess the building every day to determine what needs to be updated in order to continue to offer you the vacation experience you desire.
New Roof in the Café – We have replaced a lot of the atrium roof with leak-proof panels to fix the leaks around the café dining area and to provide more shade for our guests as that area can get uncomfortably warm during the sunny days.
Top of the Lodge – We’ve gone back to the drawing board on staffing and service levels in our Top of the Lodge dining room. We’ll be focusing on training and food quality as well as creating a menu with influence from our guests.
Hydration Station – Last year, together with all of you, we were able to fill more than 37,000 reusable bottles of water with our hydration station in the Café. We consider our efforts to “Ditch the Bottle” a success and are adding a new hydration station and ice machine more easily accessible to our guest rooms.
HDTV – After you’ve skied all day, dined with your friends and family sometimes all you want to do is just veg out. This year, HDTV will be accessible in all guests’ rooms and the Saloon, which means the Saloon will be the place to be for Sunday football and the Super Bowl.
As winter nears, we’ll continue to check projects off the list. We look forward to taking your calls and hearing what you’ve been up to over the summer. Winter will be here before we know it. We can’t wait to welcome you to the Lodge.
